One minute you have a settled life, a job, house and activities in the local community – then you meet someone, you sell up, and decide to explore around the country house and pet sitting!
Well that might not be what everyone decides, but it did to us – Annabel and I met a few years ago, and after some thought, (not too much) we sold my house in Cornwall and haven’t looked back since.
Being digital nomads, we have both managed to continue our employment, while enjoying the privilage of our circumstances by seeing various parts of the United Kingdom.
So far, we have had enjoyed a steamy beer festival in Yorkshire, Christmas in Sussex, New Year in Scotland and a breezy Easter time in Wales.
Along the way we have met some wonderful people, great pets and I hope those who follow these pages will enjoy following our journey.
Please feel free to get in contact with us, and we’ll be glad to share our experiences – of being no home, digital nomads!
We heard an owl hooting as we all finally drifted off to sleep last night. Sleep was fitful with a poorly dog. Waking at about 5 to make sure she was okay. A trip to the vets as soon as they opened, confirmed the need for a few stitches. The other dog got a sunny…
Another day of sorting bits out for the house sale and catching up with a few jobs around Liskeard. The most exciting thing, (for me) during the day was getting ten minutes at Liskeard station. As the railway signalling is being upgraded, a bus replacement service is running between Liskeard and St Austell, which meant…
It’s always interesting when you go away for a while, and then come back to a town you are so familiar with. I did find myself feeling a stranger, yet the fact I was working in the same old way, made me feel like nothing had changed. I had a job installing a computer in…
Today came news about the house – with fingers crossed we are making progress on the sale, so decisions had to be made – the decision being that I would return to Liskeard to complete the last few things, and Annabel would remain with the dogs – so this is going to be a short…
Having shared breakfast with our house guests – seen them on their way – we sat for half hour with a coffee, but I quickly got itchy feet and, as Annabel wanted to have a lazy Sunday, I decided to head down to the Watercress, Midhants Steam Railway. Annabel kindly agreed to drop me off,…
If God was having a bath at 3 o’clock this morning, he obviously emptied the entire contents over Oakhanger – biblical floods of water poured from the sky, and I wondered what rivers and swamps we would be waking up to in the fields outside the house – and if we would have power…. Our…
I mentioned yesterday the miltary base that surrounds Oakhanger – I never get tired of the abnormality of walking out of the house where we are staying, to find a chocolate box village green, homely rose covered cottages, tall oak trees, contrasting with the monsters of the large white domes towering above them. Oakhanger is…
First real test of working remotely and keeping customers happy. Storm Ciarán hit Hampshire and her aggravated stormy hand swiped out the power to our side of the village of Oakhanger – this meant no broadband for us – in context a minor frustration, though of course – today – a lot of customers decided…
With storm Ciarán on its way up the south coast, today saw us getting everything as ready as possible to reassure the dogs with us, and make sure we could limit our travels over the next few days. A morning walk was very much about communication as chilled out red lab sulked at the disappearance…
Tuesday in Oakhanger, and we’ve been introduced to our new charges – a beautiful red lab, and a jack russel that has a turn of speed and jump that would give Motorcross a decent race – we have spent the day building friendships and trust so they get used to our presence over the next…
