Yorkshire Scallywags

The Old folly is a building worth a visit on its own, as it is the headquarters of the North Craven Building Preservation Trust and home to The Museum of North Craven Life, which tells fascinating tales of the people and landscape of North Craven.

The cafe is quaint, and offered a good selection of cakes, including our encounter with Scallywags, or scoundrels and rascals as they are also called – apparently leading local controversy.

Scallywags are the a scone style cake, which like Cornish Cream teas were served with jam and cream, (Cornish 🙂 ) – we had a brief discussion if the rules of spreading the jam first were correct, and I stuck to my Kernow – and correct – ways, jam first.

At this point of writing, Annabel and I intend to bake some Scallywags, and we’ll share our receipe. However in the meantime, a few ideas can be found on the BBC Good Food page here.
