Annabel POV – Saturday kicked off with a check up at the vets – all going well.
While David headed out for a pedal with one of the guests, I got on with the last of the food prep for lunch for 14. Helped all the way by a superb sus chef.
Guests all tumbled in, and the kitchen was packed with people and one extra dog.
The main of Chili and jackets was followed by dog walks. One for the big dog, and a smaller group to the play park with the kids and the little dog, who is on strict rest. When was the last time you saw a terroir rest?
Pudding and games of Dobble filled the rest of the afternoon.
Once all cleared away from lunch, we who remained dropped on to sofas and watched a dubious and mildly amusing film, before an early night by all.
David POV – For the cycle, we, (as in my friend from Cornwall and me) headed off for a gentle and easy pedal along the countrylanes around Oakhanger.
Used to the steeply undulating Cornish terrain – it was a pleasure to pedal along the flat countryside of Hampshire. A few miles down the road and we found ourselves in Binstead – a beautiful rural village a few miles outside of Alton. My friend was busy taking photos of the white parish church, and a cottage, which was the old shop.
It was a scene from a chocolate box, rural and pleasing architecture with well kept gardens.
Chatting to a gentlemen at the church, we learnt that Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery was buried in the graveyard, so we had a quick wonder and paid our respects on the 11th November 2023.
Following the lane we mistakenly ended up on the A31 – we both pedalled quick to get off the dual carriageway and then headed down to the farm shop at Kingsley
A good relaxing pedal – before other friends arrived for the main meal.
