One minute you have a settled life, a job, house and activities in the local community – then you meet someone, you sell up, and decide to explore around the country house and pet sitting!
Well that might not be what everyone decides, but it did to us – Annabel and I met a few years ago, and after some thought, (not too much) we sold my house in Cornwall and haven’t looked back since.
Being digital nomads, we have both managed to continue our employment, while enjoying the privilage of our circumstances by seeing various parts of the United Kingdom.
So far, we have had enjoyed a steamy beer festival in Yorkshire, Christmas in Sussex, New Year in Scotland and a breezy Easter time in Wales.
Along the way we have met some wonderful people, great pets and I hope those who follow these pages will enjoy following our journey.
Please feel free to get in contact with us, and we’ll be glad to share our experiences – of being no home, digital nomads!
Heavy rain meant Annabel and I had a productive day working inside the house. Our daily dog walk was aimed for when the forcast predicated an easing of the weather, and though the dogs looked a bit disgruntled at having their routine with us delayed, everytime they popped out into the garden, they appeared to…
Today found us working for the majority of the time, but we squeezed in a trip to Haywards Heath to pick up some Christmas bits. First though, morning found us once more walking the dogs up and around Ashdown Forest; we parked near to the old Nutley Windmill. Built during the time of Henry VIII,…
Sunday brought a relaxed start to the day, – we walked the dogs in another part of Ashdown Forest – and then it was time to go to a nearby National Trust House Standen Garden, which is situated on the outskirts of East Grinstead. The house was decorated in the style of a Beale family…
Today was the epitome of why our adventure is so worthwhile. Lewes had been recommended as a town to visit, and this was the first day when dogs and work permitted a chance to go further afield then East Grinstead, or Pooh Forest for that matter. We walked the dogs first thing, before we drove…
Finally the sun broke through the grey clouds that had hung over East Grinstead since we had arrived, (though I assume the two events are not connected) – it was a delight to be able to look out from the house windows and see the valley opposite and the skirt of Ashdown Forest. It was…
On Monday we had news that the local butcher to where we are staying was unable to take any new orders on Christmas birds! This left a question, where do we find our Christmas roast – so we went off afternoon hunting for another butcher, local veg, and a good place to explore with the…
Our new dwellings are right on the edge of 100-acre wood – or I should say Ashdown Forest, which is the inspiration for A. A. Milne’s famous tales. I was excited to explore, but the weather today has beaten us – and despite a brief walk around the edge of the forest, we will have…
David Pov: I squeezed in a few other jobs, which made the 24 hours and 15 minutes in Liskeard a worthwhile trip – then it was time to catch the 13:44 train to Paddington and a dash across to Victoria for the train to East Grinstead, where I would meet Annabel, who was being introduced…
David Pov: I write first today, as a customer had called me – they had been let down by one of their other suppliers – reluctantly I had agreed to return to Cornwall and hopefully resolve the issues. It meant after last night’s meal, an early start – Annabel dropped me off at Basingstoke station…
Sunday, last day in Oakhanger for a while, so we spent the morning doing odd jobs, finishing off decorations, a quick walk on the common before we all went to Woking for a catch up with Jolly, who we are looking after in February. A fun evening all round. Tomorrow, we head to our next…
