I have heard the whistles in the distance throughout our stay, reminding me of the nearby Bluebell Steam Railway and the call to explore the line further after my brief visit before Christmas, which can be read here.
Catching the first train out of East Grinstead, I had intended to just enjoy the journey, but instead found myself hopping off at Horsted Keynes Station, which as an old junction station has been lovely restored to a 1920’s feel – and features in a number of tv/film productions.
A few conversations with station staff found me in the signal box, watching the steam trains approaching from the high-vantage point.
This was followed by a trip behind an 1878 locomotive to Sheffield Park and back to East Grinstead.
A lovely day, followed by an evening just chilling.
