Bournmoor, to catch up with my brother, which meant last night a few games, a good meal and catch up chats, before today setting off to Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum.
I should firstly say there is no relationship to Annabel, or her sisters sports shop, Bowe’s Sports, (see here) instead the Bowes Museum is a wonderful collection of art objects, mainly collected from around the 17th century to the late 19th. Like a miniature V&A, the museum is well stocked with interesting artifacts, neatly spaced out in a beautiful mock French Chateau, which is worth seeing in itself.
The paintings, ceramics, dresses, toys and other oddities, are worth the entrance fee, with the highlight being the swan!
A robotic swan, built in the 18th century with clockwork motion, that is just a delight to watch. Wound up a few times a day, the motion is, well, timeless, and poetry to watch. Highly recommended to go and see, the craftsmanship, time and beauty of watching the swan go through it’s ‘programming’ is fantastic.
A few photographs below of the exhibition.
