I escaped…..Annabel having a networking meeting, and then, in the afternoon rightly paying her pentience for the use of her sisters’ flat, by working in the local Bowe Sports & Leisurewear – a very good Dunbar store, for all of those fashion, sports and clothing needs I will say.
This meant I had an opportunity to explore,….and I headed up to Edinburgh to do a slow tour of the Scottish National Gallery.
First though, Coddiwomple, if ever a word amptly describes our current lifestyle it is this,….and the word popped up on a feed for another of Annabel’s sister.
I am not sure what the collective noun for coddiwomples is, but I do love the word.
Scottish National Gallery
To the Gallery, and this was an opportunity to visit the collection with plenty of time, and a slow pace, our first visit being a hurried affair.
A train ride from Dunbar to Edniburgh Waverly Station, and a short walk to the gallery, (via the Scott Monument) meant I dodged the rain and entered a surprisingly busy gallery.
Its amazing to just stand and see some of these masterpieces of art, and I spent a good while exploring the various collections. I didn’t take any photographs, as it didn’t feel right, instead I just enjoyed the atmosphere and the details of the masters like Canaletto up close.
I find it almost impossible to imagine how Canaletto painted with such precision, but seeing them is a truly inspiring experience.
A brief wet walk
After a number of hours passed in the gallery, I took a quick stroll around the city, a few photos, and watched by chance a parade by some pipers. An enjoyable day all round.
