Annabel’s Christmas gift was a trip up the Shard followed by a meal out in London. With the weather set fine, and our dog charge having left us to join her owners in Cornwall, today was the perfect opportunity to catch the train from Hook and head to London.
Going via Waterloo to London Bridge railway station, we made the Shard half hour early to catch the 6m/s lift up to the bar and viewing deck. With a spectacular view, and a perfect tempo tour the trip was something that will live long in the memory for both of us. We enjoyed over two hours just wondering around the open platform looking down at the sites of London.
Gazing down at Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye and H.M.S Belfast was fabulous, with clear blue skies we couldn’t have timed our visit better. From the Shard you could watch the trains snake their way through the urban landscape, and view the seat of power with its washed brickwork cleaming in the sun.
A short walk to Liverpool Street, and we had our meal, before fatigue from my dash to Cornwall caught up, and we returned to Hook for a restful evening watching the Olympic highlights.
Highly recommend a trip up the Shard!
