Wednesday, finds Annabel and I taking the day off for a trip on the NYMR, the plan, a steam train ride for some f+c in Whitby.
A blue clear sky, and baking temperature, we prepared carefully to take the dog with us on the train.
Arriving for the first train of the day, we were delayed getting to Whitby, by a problem created on the mainline section. Therefore arriving late, we found ourselves in a crowded hot seaside resort looking to be fed. After ten minutes we decided to return to the train and go back to the peace of an alternative station on the Yorkshire moors, which the NYMR travels through.
However, the signal failrues continued with the train being shunted around to get the engine to the front. Eventually we got to Goathland, where icecream awaited for us and a foot cooling walk in the river for the dog. Beer at the top served by grumpy bar staff. Then in the distance we heard a whistle. A steam train. Grabbing the dog, we dashed down to the station and hopped on the train just in time. The decision when in Whitby, was to have fish’n’chips from a shop in Pickering, and sit in our sunny garden back.
We sat out for the remainder of the day in the sun bathed garden. Bliss.
