We had planned to plan today, the first part of the plan went well, a walk to Lechlade-on-Thames from Hannington.
Along a lovely set of country paths, bridleways and tracks, the walk was a little boggy, but flat after descending from the starting point by Hannington Hall.
After several miles of walking along flat landscape, we came to some open farmland before taking a last few turns to join the river Thames path.
Blue warm sky, swans lazily swimming, rich green meadows gave the path a perfect Constable feel to the stroll along the Thames bank.
Lechlade-on-Thames is an historic town, which formed the highest navigable point on the river before the advent of the canals. A wharf used to see the unloading and loading of goods being transported from Bristol to London.
Today the wharf has been converted to serve the tourist with a river pub, tea shop and gift shops.
Here our plan to plan went wrong, as we relaxed by the river with a pint, then another, and…..
A few hours later and we waiting for the bus to Highworth and from there we walked along the Rapeseed path back to Hannington.
A beautiful day, with fantastic countryside and a relaxing drink or two in Lechlade-on-Thames.
