After a very circular path, we’ve ended back at our main sit for April and May – in the lovely Wiltshire village of Hannington, just up from the river Thames.
On the way from Shaftesbury, we pause to stop at Lacock Abbey – a national trust site, which also has a great exhibition on Fox Talbot, (who owned the property) and his work on techniques to create photographic negatives – helping on the path to widespread photography.
From Lacock we head to Hannington – having explored a little of the area during our previous visits – I do enjoy this village.
It’s quaint, with lots of historical buildings, a pub, (oddly called the Jolly Tar) and an interesting, but private, Hannington Hall.
Our stay in Hannington involves three cats, a mum and two 9 month old boys – however mum shows no maternal instincts, taking every opportunity to hiss and swipe at her off spring, guessing she has a very strong grudge at their dad for not staying around to help!
We visited a local pub, The Trout, by the weir pool at St.John’s Lock for our evening meal. A good day.
