14th March, and with the return of Jolly’s owners – it is time for us to set off to the next location, which is just outside Swindon, near Highworth – in old English, Warde, (enclosure).
Sir John Betjeman described Highworth –
Highworth is an ancient hill top market town situated on the edge of the Cotswolds only four miles from the River Thames and close to Swindon and its many facilities. John Betjeman said, l have never seen Highworth given due praise in guide books for what is one of the most charming and unassuming country towns in the West of England.” The town centre is a remarkable conservation area containing 84 listed buildings plus a Grade l listed church.

He is certainly right – the town is well worth a visit and wonder.
This visit to Swindon is just a three day pitstop as we are heading to Holyhead, but returning after Easter to take up our new charges – three cats.
Using the few days we had, we explored the local town of Faringdon, which is a typical Cotswolds village, with an old town/market square – and proper Lardy cakes on sale in the local bakers!
Holyhead on Sunday.
