Woking has not been a total story of rain. We managed a few trips out, two to the local theatre to see ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong‘ and ‘Cluedo‘, both worth a watch – on Saturday 9th we made a day trip to Brooklands Museum.
Brooklands Museum
This is a museum for anyone interested in transport, cars, buses, and aircraft – and a trainline right next door – Brooklands was a location I had wanted to visit, ever since watching ‘Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.’
Sadly only a short stretch of the original race track still remains, but you get an idea of the scale, speed and excitment – it’s easy to imagine the thrill of the roaring 20’s with the jazz, dancing, (total lack of HSE) and fast champagne!
Barnes Wallis worked at Brooklands during his time at Vickers, and here he developed a number of his famous ideas – Upkeep, geodetic construction, and the preserved on site Stratosphere Chamber, which is worth a visit on its own.
We toured the various museums and I had a quick walk on the old track – until the cold – and the need to get back to Jolly – got to our feet. I will definitly return though.
