Heavy rain meant Annabel and I had a productive day working inside the house.
Our daily dog walk was aimed for when the forcast predicated an easing of the weather, and though the dogs looked a bit disgruntled at having their routine with us delayed, everytime they popped out into the garden, they appeared to agree with our reasoning.
Late afternoon saw us loading the cars, and Annabel eager for an evening on her own – and me eager for an evening with some steamy friends – we found ourselves heading to Sheffield Park, where Annabel dumped me to play trains, while she walked the dogs and caught up with a call.
I ventured onto the platform, not too sure what I would find – the Bluebell had their Christmas lights special on, and I doubted if I would be able to get a lift on the train back to where I was staying. It quickly turned out I couldn’t, so instead I spent the evening in the signalbox watching the train being prepared, and enjoying a chance to see how another railway runs.
By chance the signalman was the old station master at Lewes, (see our post here) during the 70’s, so we had a great conversation about railways. From the signalbox, I put some money behind the railway with a pint and some cake – then waited for Annabel to retrieve me.
The railway is due to run a normal schedule after Christmas, so I plan a return!
