Following a day of work, I have decided to venture off on the train to Dundee. I needed a few items, and the opportunity to explore a different city from Edinburgh was too good to miss. Making the most of the journey, I found lots of hints to the industry of the area, though the highlight was crossing the Tay bridge. Such a beautiful morning, the water was pastel blue, and I could see clearly up and down the river. With the weather being so calm, it was difficult to picture the disaster that struck the original bridge, but the piers are clearly visible on the Dundee side.
Arriving in to the city about 11ish, I wondered through the center grabbing a few things. Sadly, Dundee, like so many of the locations we have visited is showing the signs of a high-street in decline. The architecture of the buildings is fantastic, and such heritage deserves life. I can only hope our politicians and bureaucrats wake up to the need to save the central decline of our traditional shops.
Wondering down to the river, I was able to get some photographs of the bridge, before venturing up to the main attractions, the Dundee V&A and Discovery Point to visit the Royal Research Ship Discovery. A wonderfully laid out heritage center, with an opportunity to go on board the Royal Research Ship Discovery as they continue her preservation. Well worth the entrance price.
