Monday saw us driving from Dent, via Hawick to Kelso, and then Fife for a return to the castle. There are few better journeys in a car then the one that takes you through the Cumbrian hills and into the Boarders. The countryside is inspiring for the whole trip, and no matter what the traffic is doing, it is such a relaxing path weaving across from the M6 to the drama of the Lammermuirs, (a range of hills on the Boarders).
Our destination is a return to Burntisland and the chance to look after some old friends, the two lovely Scottish Deerhounds and one snake, which we met last July, (see the post Snake fed; finding Past).
We stopped briefly in Kelso on the way up, so I could visit a gentleman’s outfitters to get my wedding costume, and then visited Annabel’s mum for a cuppa, before heading up to the castle.
Arriving about 7pm, we had an evening of catching up with the owners and relaxing before getting back into the swing of early morning dog walks.
Today was a work day, mixed with a brief walk into the town, where there are still plenty of independent stores to visit. A good butcher, great veg shop, and fresh fish meant we stocked up ready for the week – the only fly in the ointment is an Engine Management Light coming on, so the car has been booked into a local garage, fingers crossed on this one.
Our first evening walk with the deerhounds, meant we could enjoy the warmth of an April sunset over the Firth of Forth.
A relaxing day, tomorrow, time to get to know Venessa the snake again!
