Saturday – and Annabel has the castle bug – early breakfast to beat the traffic on the Menai bridge, and we get to Caernarfon about 10:30am.
Caernarfon Castle is a fanstic example of castle building, and a lot of it remains intact – it is easy to imagine living in the building during its use – with large kitchens, battlements, towers and rooms – as the website states:
Here Edward and his military architect Master James of St George erected a castle, town walls and a quay all at the same time. This gigantic building project eventually took 47 years and cost a staggering £25,000.

A museum to the Royal Welch regiment is on the grounds – and well worth a visit.
A great day out – followed by a relaxing fire in the evening.
