Steam trains, and a beer festival,…apart from a winning lottery ticket, and a free holiday to the Bahamas, I am struggling to think of a better way to start our trip.
Being hosted kindly by some friends in a lovely Edwardian house in Otley, we were up early to catch the train from Menston to Keighley for our planned day out at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway beer fesitval…and when they organise a beer fesitval, they oragnise a beer festival. https://kwvr.co.uk/
With an amazing selection of beers, wines and ciders, the railway is transformed into 5 miles of taste and music; we enjoyed ourselves going up and down the line exploring the museums, stations and, of course, beer tents.
I managed to visit all the stops, including ‘Oakworth!’, (must be shouted) of Railway Children fame, and sneaked a visit into the signal box at Damems. Great to watch the operation of the road crossing, and the interaction with the trains passing in the loop just up the line towards Oxenhope.
Having been left out of the day, the evening was spent being hosted by the two dogs. When I say hosted, I mean they decided that sitting on my lap was the best way to be helpful while I was working.
