Stag do to Liverpool for my brother’s wedding, and a chance to visit three National Trust houses. One, which was the amazing Speke Hall, just outside the city and was also the pick up point for the minibus drive to John and Paul’s childhood homes.
Speke hall is a wonderful Tudor period home, which speaks of elegance, wealth and history, with beautiful gardens leading down to views across the Mersey.
The trip to the childhood homes was interesting, and certainly when I went into John’s bedroom a hair on the back of the neck moment. We know the story of their childhood, and it is not difficult to picture the sadness, joy along with the creativity that marked the formative years of the Beatles. A great experience, which I’m so glad to have enjoyed.
In the evening we went to the rebuilt Cavern Club, where else, before I retreated to leave the ‘younger’ brother the rest of the evening.
Sunday was a trip to the Western Approaches museum, a totally different experience, but you could feel the atmosphere of the rooms, where so many cruical life changing decisions were made.
A great weekend, and a city I need to return to, certainly just to look around the Liverpool museum, which we made a fleeting coffee trip to.
