Since starting our tour around the country we have done our best to avoid service stations and instead find interesting places to stop for refreshments and a rest from driving. Chirk Castle is a perfect example of this strategy, with it being a National Trust site, entrance was free and the cafe served a lovely hot chilli, which was definitely required on this nippy day.
We spent a good few hours exploring the site, and despite the cold, we made the most of the lovely views that the castle location on top of the hill offered.
I would totally recommend this castle as a gem of our countryside, and we will certainly be returning soon.
