A beautiful, manic, fun, friendly, relaxing, weekend comes to an end, with some panicked goodbye’s. Storm Floris is about to make landfall and an amber weather warning has come into place, which the press is dramatizing to the point where it is apparent the world is unlikely to survive until tomorrow.
Trains in Scotland are being cancelled or rearranged. Some of our wedding guests are due out on flights from Edinburgh or Inverness. With the weather clearly changing some guests run for the south on earlier trains, and others plan an extra night.
Annabel and I say our goodbyes and work our plans around the increasing wind strength. For the bulk of the day we are sorting out bits from the wedding, stashing our presents, dropping off the marriage certificate – we also get chance for a relaxed lunch over looking the Forth and the Bass rock.
About 4 in the evening we set our route for north Scotland, and Grantown-On-Spey. We are aware of the weather warning, and take sensible precautions, but we are also aware that the storm is likely to be, – well weather!
Our drive is uneventful, the roads are remarkably clear, and though the winds are high, we only begin to really notice anything beyond normal weather as we get towards Inverness. However the area around Aviemore is calm, and by the time we get to the Dunallan House B&B everything is normal. We catch up with our wedding guests who run the B&B and then wonder out for a lovely evening meal at the The Wee Puffin | Grantown on Spey. A lovely restaurant, friendly staff, well worth the drive north for.
