This was an interesting dog walk, which we took with some friends while staying in Linkenholt.
From the nearby village of Vernham Dean we set off on a circular path that starts with a gentle climb to Fosbury camp, an iron age hillfort. As the path ventures near the top of the hill, we got a wonderful view of the rolling hills that form this area of the North Wessex Downs before venturing through the first embankments that makes up the outer defences of the camp.
It was difficult to not picture the original inhabitants of the fort, such is the atmosphere of the location. The banks, trees and circles in the grass all hint to much to explore, and I certainly intend to return to the location when time and the weather permit.
From the fort we dropped back down crossing the road near Fosbury itself, and then back round for a lovely cooked roast at the village pub of Vernham Dean.
