A New Year walk along the river Tyne, near East Linton, found us at Hailes Castle, which in its day would’ve been a beautiful place to live over looking the river. Sadly, it’s another castle that suffered the Cromwell fate, (he did appear to smash up a lot around Scotland), but the site is still worth a wonder. On the day we visited, the castle was closed with the walls in need of repair.
