Catching up on a few posts, and thought I would share our Boxing day 24 visit to Tyninghame Beach, just north of Dunbar. This is a beach to visit if you enjoy great views, lovely sandy strolls and a bit of WWII history. Anti-tank obstacles are littered on this beach, and what looks like the remains of a few obstacles to stop glider landings.
In 1940, an invasion from Norway by the Germans was considered highly likely, and defences were hurriedly built. The line of blocks can be walked in many places, and one such walk and the history of the line is well documented in a book by Alistair Moffat, The Hidden Ways: Scotland’s Forgotten Roads. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in Scottish history, and who also love a good walk.
A few images of the day are shared below.
