Burntisland held it’s Highland games today, with a parade in the morning, which we’d planned to see.
Sadly just after breakfast, one of our dogs came in panting heavily, so we stayed with him, and missed the parade, but we did make some of the games.
Wondering down to Burntisland’s lovely open park situated just behind the beach, we browsed through the various stalls, games and rides. Annabel was keen to pick up an overly large stuffed seagull, (me very reluctant for historical reasons avoided the challenge) so we ended up standing on a mound over looking the games arena.
Fortunate enough to observe some of the traditional Highland games like throwing weights, Highland dancing, running and eventually the one game we really wanted to see, tossing the caber.
Caber tossing is a skill, which I’m sure was of use, but even today it has to be admired. Despite a careful warm up, and the managed lifting of the caber, the athletes struggled at times to complete their toss, however we did manage to capture one successful throw.
I’ve limited the photographs to avoid any GDPR issues, but I highly recommend watching some Highland games if you get chance.
