If God was having a bath at 3 o’clock this morning, he obviously emptied the entire contents over Oakhanger – biblical floods of water poured from the sky, and I wondered what rivers and swamps we would be waking up to in the fields outside the house – and if we would have power….
Our little charge barked her best, and decided the Noah esque floods of rain was as good excuse as any – to run up and jump on our bed – before we could say ‘woof’, she had nestled between us and fallen asleep – too early in the morning to argue, we listened to the rain….and drifted off ourselves.
The morning woke to rain, a flooded lower field and a fast flowing river – however the bridge was still useable and I took the dogs for a good trudge over the fields.
With guests due in the afternoon, we harvested apples and pears from next doors orchard, (with their permission) and then picked sloes for gin making in the future.
Crumble was our plan, and as Annabel and I tend to work well together, I am obviously not going to write that I made it here in our blog – pears and apple chopped – nutmeg, cinnamon – and I have to say I was quite pleased with how it smelled and looked – proof is in the pudding though…update tomorrow.
Guests arrived, a chilled out late afternoon by the fire, games on the horizon.
