First real test of working remotely and keeping customers happy.
Storm Ciarán hit Hampshire and her aggravated stormy hand swiped out the power to our side of the village of Oakhanger – this meant no broadband for us – in context a minor frustration, though of course – today – a lot of customers decided to phone up with problems.
This all meant trying to work off my 4G dongle – the only problem, Oakhanger – despite the large military listening station that surrounds the village, has an awful mobile signal – so I spent the day trying to maintain my patience with slow broadband connections to frustrated customers – it was a positive day of learning how nomadic IT does, and doesn’t, work.
No lights, no power, no hot water – candles and a log burner were a comfort and along with the dogs keeping me company, I had a relaxing day (ignoring the work issues).
In the evening we popped to Hawkley village for a meal with the neighbours, – good to catch up – despite the flooding, which made the drive a little adventurous. The village pub in Hawkely Inn is a lovely traditional pub, with a roaring wood fire, and decent tap ales.
Photos below are of the bridge at the bottom of the field – in one photo you can see the bridge, (taken around 4pm) the other, the bridge is submerged with the high water level, (taken about 9am). There has indeed been a lot of rain….to state the bleeding obvious!
Taken the day after, showing the normal water levels.
