Fair to say it was a day when the child came out – physically as I entertained Annabel’s 4 year old nephew on the soft play frames – and mentally as I took a childish – let’s get wet opportunity – all for a photo – we must suffer for our art.
Waking up with heads from the night before, Annabel and I had a slow breakfast before venturing down to meet Annabel’s sister, brother-in-law, and nephew.
Needless to say the 4 year old showed no sympathy to the late night had by all of us adults, and his exocet running around the Dunbar SoftSpott, accompanied by the shreak of excited children nudged us all out of our grogginess.
Through dazed eyes, we became aware of a dynamic going on between the nephew and an older girl on the softplay – I didn’t need much excuse to take my shoes off and go and play with the newphew, climbing to the top to play football with him in the marked off goals. Finished with a race down the slide, I think my inner child had been realised, perhaps a little too much for commonsense to reign in….
A pint – a wave – and a shag
From the softplay we all agreed to wonder down to the harbour, so Annabel and I walked back past the beautiful parish church of Dunbar, grabbing a few more photographs of the redstone architecture.
As we waited for the others, I captured some images of a tame seabird on the harbour wall, I am reliably told a shag.
Meeting the remaining members of the family we ventured into the Volunteer Arms pub and enjoyed a lovely ale….this probably futher reduced the commonsense of my decision making…..
A short walk and once more I was stood by the seawall watching the waves breaking up and over the defences of Cromwell harbour.
I decided to go for it – the break in one location threw the seawater up and over the wall, crashing down on the road near we stood.
Childish commonsense, ale, tiredeness,….an opportunity not to be missed…
It was worth it…soaked to the bone, videos and pictures to share….I was happy,….Annabel amused….and thankfully only a five minute walk back to refuge in the flat.
Only one lady glanced at my unusual appearance, though a smile and a shrug of my shoulders appeared to reassure her, and I returned to get dry and warm in the flat.
Our afternoon saw Annabel and I back at Skateraw for a walk…and a few more photographs, this time sensibly took.
